There’s nothing like losing all your past blog posts to ruin a good day. Remember to back your stuff up. I should know better, given that my full time job is in IT, but here I am starting my blog over.
It’s probably a good thing, since in the past I’ve written more about topics such as software development processes and over the past few years my job has changed quite a bit. Now my time is far more often spent analyzing data relevant to IT and thinking about how we could be better users of data within IT.
I’d argue, for all the data that IT people move around, we aren’t ourselves very good users of data. We tend not to organize our data for analysis and keep it only in as much as it prevents an unpleasant call from the audit department. Yet we create a ton of data about our own activities in IT and everything we do is built upon a long and rich history of scientific advancements. We’re primed to use the data – it is a matter of figuring out how exactly.
